I've deployed enough to know that this type of action is strictly prohibited--> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27175042/?GT1=43001

But in FAVOR of uncleal, I'll chalk this one up to MSNBC trying to make the military look like "meanies"...

Should have just crated the dog and shipped it air freight on United or something.

It would probably be easier getting it out of Customs quarantine than trying to negotiate with the Army.

Why is it strictly prohibited?

A Navy buddy of mine in Scotland (married and living out in town) bought a registered beagle and had a heck of a time trying to get it shipped back to the states. The Navy wouldn't ship it at all. He had to do it on his own nickel and still had a bunch of hoops to jump through.

The military just aint gonna ship your pets. That's why I waited until I'd retired to get a dog.

Why is it strictly prohibited?

Diseases for one thing. You can't even have a local critter as mascot....

You don't have to like the rule but it's a rule everyone is briefed on....

Also quarantine of any foreign animal is the law period. You must by law also have the proper paper work and permits prior to shipment of said animal. and shipper of animal must be licensed and bonded. If this is allowed to happen then think how our enemies see this. Now how easy do you think it would be if Bin Laden shipped a pooch over with a Bio bomb or perhaps the word Bio Puppy bomb. Yes true and sad but pigs like bin laden don't give a hoot so the law of importation of animal must be held up and not fall. Army needs to hardcore enforce or arrest and discharge dishonorably the soldier. In the US there are plenty of puppies looking to be adopted at your local animal society.

USCG76, lighten up!
You're suggesting a dishonorable discharge for the soldier because she wants to keep her dog??? Sure, there are quarantine regulations that have to be followed and from what I've read the Baghdad Pups group has been successful in bringing these pets home for the troops and still complying with regulations. We should pay more attention to chemical or biological weapons being concealed in shipping containers, rather than in some GI's pet pooch.
