Remember Cyber, if you never work for less than you're worth - you'll never work for more than you're worth. . . really.

I'm right around there as well, Skarbo.

$9.50/hr gets me about... $1100/month take home. I think. lol

Every other Friday, Wags puts about $500 in my bank account.

I've got an idea or two to increase my income. :)

Well.....As long as it doesn't involve a shiny handgun and a mask you should do well :beach3:

LMFAO!

Well, funny you should mention that...

One of them does involve a gun... But no mask. ;)

If you're thinking about what I think you're thinking about, an office job is to be greatly desired. Just a clerk with a Smith & Wesson

Yep Willy.....Living cheap can be done.....;)
One thing I HAVE found is I really don't miss the money THAT much:prop:
When I was working for 40-50k life was good.... but when your working 60-90hrs (yep....I did that :faintthud:) you just do not have time to enjoy very much.....My work did put 2 kids through college(and one through Med school) so it was worth it.
But the older I get the more I find out just how much money is not that big of deal.
While I still trying hard to improve my situation....it's just not a big of issue as it used to be.....I'm getting too damn old to work THAT hard anymore...

The BIGGEST thing that has changed my mind is that me and my wife have got to be a lot closer, even after 32 years....kids being gone and all.....

I don't think I've lost very much :thumbs up:

I've found that life is better now that I'm retired and not chasing the almighty dollar. As long as me and Mrs Willy are together, the bills are paid, there's food on table and I have my little amusements, I don't really need much else.

My youngest daughter started college this year, but all we're having to do is support her. She got a bunch of scholarships and grants that's covering those expenses. And she just got picked up by a program from a local hospital that will pay the rest of her way thru college as long as she agrees to work for them for two years after she graduates as a RN.

All in all, the Lord has blessed us.

hehe I bet you are thinking what I'm thinking - if not, pretty close.

Seriously considering signing up for the Columbus PD and then joining Air Force Reserves.

Desk jobs/retail just isn't for me. Just so dull. So boring.

I need more from life.

I loved AFROTC when I was in it and I miss that.

Get my car, get into Columbus PD, join the reserves, use some Gov't money to finish my degree and get a commission. :)

Cybr,
When you gonna take up that job offer I gave ya'...? ;)

CybrSlydr
10-06-2008, 08:03 PM
hehe

First I need to get in better shape. Back in ROTC, I actually ran the 1.5 in 10:30. I was sooo happy when I did. :D Pretty good for a guy who's 6'1", 240. :)

I'm aiming to get back around there again.

It's something I've considered, Panther. Seriously.

Better hurry up before you need an age waiver....

CybrSlydr

lmao

I'm only 24. :)

Besides, money is the main reason I've not done anything yet.

I'm a few months away from a promotion at Walgreens. I'll be netting about $36k. That'll nearly double my current income. Makes paying for my school loans a LOT easier.

Joining the Air Force as an E1 or even E2 due to college classes I've taken would be a significant step back in pay for me - and I can't afford that.

Depending upon how much college you have, you could come in as an E-3.

That would put you at $1587/month. Since you'd be living in the barracks, that also means no rent. And you'd have a health, dental, and college plan.

Are you still coming out ahead at Wal-Mart?

CybrSlydr
10-06-2008, 10:58 PM
lol Walgreens. :)

Big difference, bro. ;)

Panthera Pardus Nigresco
10-06-2008, 11:06 PM
At E-4 (within 28 months),
You'd be making $1949/month & you'd receive an additional $250/month for food and another $445/month for rent....

Are you still ahead at Walgreens?

Snuffy

lol Walgreens. :)

So is it like their commercials?

Does a place called Perfect exist? :o

Panthera Pardus Nigresco

Cybr,
Now that I think about it again....I don't think you're ready to join....(not a knock on you)

But in all reality, money shouldn't be the primary motivator.....

We make it that way for you customers, but you customers make it a ****ing nightmare for us. lmao

I'm not a fan of customers. ;)

And since not Panther, what makes you say that?

Cybr,
From my experiences so far, people who join the military solely for monetary purposes don't last long at all. For the most part, they either end up separating due to their own accord, or end up forced out due to some type of mal-behavior...

It's not a knock on you because the military isn't for everyone...

CybrSlydr
10-07-2008, 08:33 PM
Panther, I think you misunderstand me.

I never wanted to join the military for the money.

Right now I'm not in the right physical shape. Which is why I've started working on that (as I said in a previous thread). I'm only going to start when I know I can perform my best.

The simple fact is that right now, I don't have a drivers license. I also have no car.

The other is that I never wanted to make a career in the military as enlisted personnel. I want to be an officer. I want the opportunity to fly planes - or at least the chance to qualify.

I know I'm getting close on age. I turn 25 this February.

Believe me, I have all the respect in the world for enlisted people. They're the ones that do all the hard work, the cogs that make the Machine run.

But enlisted people don't fly planes. Plain and simple.

For that reason alone, I'm not going to enlist Active Duty.

I know, sign up for 4 years, get money from the Gov't. to finish my degree, etc. Be a "Mustang".

But by then, I'm going to be pushing 30. How many 30 yr old 2LT do you know?

With the plan I have, I'll be doing Walgreens until I'm accepted to the Columbus PD Academy. While a police officer, I'll join the Reserves. I'll put in my time that way - while going to school to finish my degree. Then, after I graduate, I'll try to get my Commission.

My plan is quicker, more financially stable and less drastic.

That's why I've not gone and enlisted.

It's not about the money - nobody in the Military is rich. :)

I'll take an O-4 through O-6's pay anytime...:thumbs up:

CybrSlydr,

I wish you the best of luck. :thumbs up:

I was in AOCS (Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School) in the mid 1980s, Pensacola, FL. At that time, a four year degree was required for admission. I don't recall any age restrictions for AOCS but the oldest in my class was 24 (man was he old). I dropped due to medical reasons (damn eyes). I considered the Air Force (pretty sure they did planes too). At that time, the Air Force had an age limit of 27.5 (Although I see no mention of age restrictions now).

The program that I went thru had a four year active duty commitment upon completion of AOCS with an additional two years for every year of flight training (that's approximate).
